Good day,

I tried to give away my Saturday shifts last week because I had training to accomplish. No one replied so I canceled the training. No biggie - I covered the morning but two things happened:

1) No one else could cover our receptionist (on Saturdays staff here don't have set hours so some weekends it's only the Librarian (that's me!), the receptionist, and the faculty teaching the Saturday courses) for her lunch break.
2) When I got back from my own lunch break I had a Spanish speaking student waiting for me so I helped her with APA style and since I'm learning Spanish we worked together for three hours. I missed my Ask a Librarian shift because I was assisting her.

What are the procedures when things come up that you hadn't planned? 95% of my Saturdays I'm alone and bored and AAL saves my sanity so I don't want to say I can't cover but yet things will pop up.

Is there a way we could input our schedules into a master Ask a Librarian Google calendar? Then if we can't cover a shift we can change it to red so it's easy to see coverage gaps and easy to claim them too. I'm just brainstorming here....

Thanks!!

Best Regards,
