Thanks, Kelly, for engaging w/ me on this and for your helpful suggestions.  Questions:

If other HCC users email askref@askref.simplelists.com, would they be temporarily added to the list so that they can see the replies?

I don't know if any of them (maybe Kristin is) are on this list. And, based on experience, I don't think they would want to be on it and get all the emails.  Could we maybe add the campus reference accounts and they could use those to correspond (signing their messages with their personal names) with the listserv.

The best option is to ask for coverage from the listserv. All of the HCC users should be able to email that listserv as well. I can always send out a reminder if you don't have coverage lined up and will be out before a confirmation comes.

(I may have to ask the other librarians to notify you if it's at a time that I'm not working. ) Your thoughts are appreciated, as always.

Hello,

The academic desk is open during the summer. If you're able to cover your usual shifts, that would be great, but we understand if that's not possible!

"What should I do if my library is closing"
Hi, Kelly!

in many years past, since we've been part of AaL starting in the "aughts" - HCC has simply gone AWOL over the summer. In essence, I have let whoever was in your position - and you, too, since you've been on board - know that HCC is lightly/irregularly staffed by librarians over the summer and here is the "end date for the spring" and
"the start date for the fall - see you then!"

However - since you put out this tip sheet in November - I have been mulling over in my own mind and with colleagues what we would do. The issue is that getting coverage for our Mon/Thurs, 3-4 shifts for the whole summer would be a tall order to impose on the listerv.

The upshot of this mulling :) is that this year - because of the largely remote nature of our work - the fact that we have a part-time librarian working remotely *this year* covering our local desk - we can commit to covering our shifts (except maybe some little gap that I will see to getting substitutes for).

So - what I need to know from you is - because I don't have the experience of coordinating HCC's participation during summer :) - is the Academic desk open or would we be covering the Statewide/Collaborative desk?

Thanks!
-Alicia
